Ugly?

For quite some time I have wanted to participate in a produce CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) but belonging has never been super easy.  Then Pinterest started prompting me with ads for Misfits Market.  They are a subscription box company that delivers sometimes funny-looking fruits and vegetables making it easy and affordable to eat healthy.  They […]

Back to School Again

Spring break is now officially over.  We were delighted to receive an email from the principal of SIG stating that a new schedule was in place for virtual learning.  The school would operate on their standard A/B schedule and teachers would have designated times to host their classes. They also subscribed to Schoology, a distance […]

Stretching Our Ingredients

Mason is not the only one cooking lately.  When I realized that we were limited on trip out of the house for groceries, I became even more determined to use what we have on had.  A few days ago, I turned an unopened gallon of milk that was about to expire into paneer.  Paneer is […]

Orejitas

After he finished his schoolwork today, Mason was hunting for an activity. He wanted to prepare something edible. I remembered I had a package of puff pastry in the freezer.  He pulled up a recipe that he had reviewed in the past and before I knew it, the kitchen was filled with the aroma of […]

Fried Calamari, Anyone?

Some dishes are worth fighting over.  This was one of those. Tonight Mason prepared fried calamari and boy, was it ever good!  He used a Bang Bang Shrimp recipe from a copycat cookbook and modified it for the calamari.  We had no problem polishing it off and hope he makes another batch soon.

Super Bowl Sunday Fun!

In our house, Super Bowl Sunday is more about the ancillary activities and culinary traditions than the sport of the game and the skill of the players. For me, Super Bowl Sunday is the culmination of a five month long knitting event called the Pigskin Party.  I am usually knitting my final blitz project and […]

Mama Mia!

Today’s culinary masterpiece by Mason is homemade New York-Style Pizza from the Binging with Babish cookbook.  It is inspired by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze.  What you have to know about this pizza is that it can’t be rushed.  Per Babish, “Provided you have a day in advance to make […]

Predictions

It is safe to say that when I left for the store today that I would not have predicted what I found when I came home. My kitchen was transformed into a fortune cookie factory by my very own son.  He used a YouTube video by Fifteen Spatulas. I was so impressed by his finished […]

Flander’s Hot Chocolate

If you ask Mason what he likes to read currently, I would venture to say he’d respond cookbooks.  This Christmas Walker gave him one called, Binging with Babish. The author, Andrew Rea, is a chef, filmmaker and presence on YouTube.  In his cookbook he recreates recipes from favorite TV shows and movies. Flander’s Hot Chocolate […]

More than Just Breakfast with Santa

Not really. This year, instead of the traditional Breakfast with Santa, the parish shifted to a full day of Advent celebrations and activity.  It incorporated the former family event which included games, crafts, stories and a visit from Santa with a craft bazaar and the youth group’s reenactment of Las Posadas. The Boy Scouts manned […]
